SHOCKING: Pastor And His 6 Children ABDUCTED By Gunmen In Lagos

SHOCKING: Pastor And His 6 Children ABDUCTED By Gunmen In Lagos

A 27-man gang on Friday abducted a pastor, Mr. Godson Akubiro, and six of his children from their Adeosun Street residence, Koya Estate, Igbo Olomu, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Akubiro is said to be the founder of Mountain of Breakthrough Church in the area. The incident was said to have occurred about 1.30am.
Neighbours, who requested anonymity, told PUNCH Metro that the gunmen arrived at Akubiro residence in three jeeps and a Toyota Tundra vehicle. The number plates of the vehicles were said to have been covered. The gunmen, who wore army camouflage, had allegedly gained entrance into the house with the aid of an iron cutter.

It was learnt that since the abduction, no one had heard from Akubiro and his six children.
The Community Developmen Association Chairman, Mr. Yinka Obasan, said he was alerted about the development about 2am.
“I got a call that night from a resident who was coming from a vigil. He told me that he noticed some military vehicles parked outside Akubiro’s home. He said the vehicles belonged to a high ranking military official because the insignia was covered.

“I told the man to wait for me and together we went to Akubiro’s home. When we got there, I greeted the men I met outside and introduced myself as the CDA chairman. I asked them if there was a problem. Instead of answering me, they turned on my companion and accused him of alerting me.
“After berating both of us for not minding our business, they forced us to sit on the ground and seized our phones. There was another resident sitting on the ground; they had detained him since 12am when they arrived. Then they started beating us.”

It was learnt that inside the Akubiro residence six of Akubiro’s children were in the sitting room watching a movie, when the men, said to be dressed in dark googles, black jeans and heavy bullet proof vests entered.
It was gathered that they told the terrified children that they were policemen and proceeded to drag their father, who was sleeping, from his bedroom into the sitting room. The six children, whose ages ranged between 30 and eight years, were beaten up.

One of them, an eight-year-old named Emeka, was allegedly tied to a tree in the compound. No reason was allegedly given by the gunmen for their actions.
Another 18-year-old boy named Obiora was said to have been tortured with a taser. Akubiro’s wife, Rita, was said to be away on a trip to South Africa at the time.
It was learnt that the gunmen later took Akubiro away along with Ada, his first daughter, Obiora, Oyinyenchi, Felicia,, Nonso and Kingsley. Three person were allegedly left behind – Emeka, Chidera and a baby.

Obasan said, “Around 2.45am, those who were inside came out with Akubiro and his children. They said they were going to the man’s church to burn it down – Akubiro is the founder and head of the Mountain of Breakthrough Church on Breakthrough Street in this estate.

“They put their victims in their vehicles and zoomed off. Before leaving, they threw our phones at us.”
It was gathered that immediately the gunmen left, a report was lodged at the Owutu Police Division.
However, the DPO was said to have denied that the gunmen were policemen.
It was learnt that since the incident, no one had been able to establish contact with Akubiro and his children. His wife Rita, who returned from South Africa the following day, was said to have received no calls concerning their whereabouts.

paw paw and its health benefits

personally prefer to eat pawpaw when it is fairly ripe and crunchy, though its antioxidant content is higher when fully ripened and soft. Pawpaw, also known as papaya may be very helpful for the prevention of atherosclerosis and diabetic heart disease due to the fact that they are an excellent source of vitamin C, vitamin E and vitamin A, through its concentration of pro-vitamin A carotenoid phytonutrients. These vitamins are very powerful antioxidants that help prevent the oxidation of cholesterol. Oxidation of cholesterol can lead to formation of dangerous plaques in blood vessel walls that can eventually cause heart attacks or strokes.

This effect can be explained by the fact that vitamin E and vitamin C is closely related to a compound called paraoxonase, which is an enzyme that inhibits LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol oxidation. Pawpaw has also been shown to lower high cholesterol levels simply because they are high in folate. The folic acid found in papayas is needed for the conversion of a substance called homocysteine into benign amino acids such as cysteine or methionine. When homocysteine levels are too high because they have not been converted, it can directly damage blood vessel walls leading to a heart attack or stroke.Unique to pawpaw are protein-digesting enzymes like papain and chymopapain. These enzymes in addition to the antioxidant nutrients have been shown to help lower inflammation and to improve healing from burns. In terms of immune support, pawpaw is not left out due to its high content of vitamin C and vitamin A which is made from the beta carotene found in its skin. You can therefore prevent recurrent ear infections, colds and flu by simply enjoying your papaya. Smokers may have an ally in papaya because of  its rich content of vitamin A. Studies have shown that diets high in vitamin A greatly helps to reduce complications associated with cancer and emphysema. So, if you smoke, or you are frequently exposed to second-hand smoke, it is wise to increase your intake of pawpaw and other vitamin A rich foods. The nutrients in pawpaw have also been shown to be helpful in the prevention of colon cancer. Papaya’s fiber, apart from aiding digestion by increasing our bowel movement, is
able to bind to cancer-causing toxins in the colon and keep them away from the healthy colon cells.

In addition, papaya’s folate, vitamin C, beta-carotene, and vitamin E have each been associated with a reduced risk of colon cancer. When these nutrients work together, they provide protection for colon cells from free radical damage to their DNA. If you want to reduce your risk of colon cancer, where else can you get these synergistic protection if not from pawpaw?

Five (5) Reasons Why you must Eat Watermelon

Ear-deep in watermelon, a boy eats a juicy slice at a festival. 1963 Big, sloppy slices of watermelon served at a picnic table are the quintessential summer snack—sweet enough to be dessert but, as several recent studies remind us, good for our health as well. (And only 84 calories per wedge!)

1. It soothes sore muscles.
According to a new study in the Journal of Agricultural Food and Chemistry, drinking watermelon juice before a hard workout helped reduce athletes' heart rate and next-day muscle soreness. That's because watermelon is rich in an amino acid called L-citrulline, which the body converts to L-arginine, an essential amino acid that helps relax blood vessels and improve circulation. The study's seven participants, all men, were given 17 ounces (500 mL) of either natural watermelon juice, watermelon juice enriched with additional citrulline, or a placebo drink an hour before their workouts. Interestingly, the natural juice was just as effective as the enriched juice. The researchers also determined that intestinal cells can absorb more citrulline from watermelon juice than from citrulline supplements, especially when the juice is unpasteurized.

2. It helps heart health.
Postmenopausal women experienced improved cardiovascular health after six weeks of taking commercially available watermelon extract supplements containing citrulline and arginine, according to a study published earlier this year by Florida State University physiologist Arturo Figueroa. And in a 2012 study—also led by Figueroa—such supplements helped alleviate high blood pressure in obese, middle-aged adults. (Not surprisingly, he's received two grants from the Watermelon Promotion Board.)

3. It could be a natural Viagra.
Improved circulation can benefit more than just the heart, as at least one watermelon researcher has pointed out But you'd probably have to eat an awful lot to achieve the desired effect--and eating too much could cause unfortunate side effects, since watermelon has long had a reputation as a natural diuretic.

4. It's rich in vitamins and minerals, but low in calories.
Given its name, you might assume the fruit has little nutritional value—and it is more than 90 percent water. But a 10-ounce (300-mL) wedge of watermelon packs in about one-third of the recommended daily value of vitamins A and C as well as a modest amount of potassium (9 percent of the daily value).

5. It could even combat cancer.
Watermelon is among the best dietary sources of lycopene, an antioxidant linked to both the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer, although scientists are still investigating the details of that connection.

priest to sue church for unfair dismissal

A  Scottish priest who says that his vocation was "destroyed" after he spoke out against sexual abuse is to claim unfair dismissal against the Catholic church at an employment tribunal.
Father Patrick Lawson, who was removed from St Sophia's parish church, in Galston, Ayrshire, in September by the Bishop of Galloway, John Cunningham, has been granted legal aid to pursue the case that could establish employment rights for priests across Britain.
"An application has been lodged on Patrick's behalf with the tribunal," said his solicitor, Cameron Fyfe. "He is breaking new ground as there has never been a decision by a UK court on this. If he is successful, it would open the door to other priests in a similar position."
Catholic churchThe Catholic church's director of communications, Peter Kearney, says the application is inappropriate: "For such a claim to be made, there would need to be an employer/employee relationship. Since the relationship between a priest and his diocese is not one of employment, reference to an employment tribunal would not be possible."
The application is the latest move in a long-running dispute. In July, Lawson revealed to the Observer that he had been fighting for 17 years for appropriate action to be taken against a fellow priest who he claims sexually assaulted him and abused altar boys. He was issued with a disciplinary warning for giving the interview.
"The church still cannot handle the truth," he told the paper. "For 17 years I have tried to get them to reach out to those who have been broken by abuse. All they do is protect the institution."
Lawson was dismissed after he had been unwell for a period following a cancer diagnosis, during which the bishop refused to allow him to reduce his workload. In a decree of removal, Cunningham wrote that Lawson's health had "prevented him exercising his ministry satisfactorily" and that removal was "justified and necessary for the good of souls".
The bishop cited 23 letters of complaint from the parish and said the priest had therefore "sustained the loss of his good reputation". However, the bishop also received more than 200 submissions of support from parishioners, some of whom walked out of mass when Lawson's removal was announced.
"The diocese's orchestrated campaign against me has left me no choice but to fight a civil case," says Lawson, who is also pursuing a Canon Law case in Rome. "The case in Rome could take years. I only had three months from the time of dismissal to take civil action, so I couldn't afford to wait. There has been so much personal pain involved that I need justice. I feel so desperate that I have served, and been willing to serve, the church, yet have been personally attacked in this way."
Fyfe says the issue of whether a priest is an employee is likely to be referred to the court of session. In 2005, the House of Lords ruled in favour of a Church of Scotland minister when her superiors tried to argue she was employed by God. A ruling that an employment tribunal could hear a Church of England minister's case was also made just last month, but there is no precedent governing the Catholic church.
"The crucial question," argues Fyfe, "is the right to dismiss. How can you say a person is self-employed but you have the right to dismiss?"
If the employment issue goes to the Court of Session, it is likely to take at least a year. If, however, it is ultimately ruled that the tribunal can hear the case, employment rights for priests will be established even if Lawson loses his personal application for unfair dismissal.
The civil case reflects a growing sense among some priests and laity that external scrutiny of church affairs is necessary. George Gardner, a former parishioner of Lawson's, said: "In my view, the church in Scotland has not proved itself capable of being honest and open about wrongdoing and therefore an outside perspective is something I would support."
There are also fears that despite the Scottish church's publication of abuse audits, the figures are inaccurate. Both Lawson and Father Gerry Magee of St Winin's in Kilwinning, also in Ayrshire have paperwork showing complaints made in 2006 against a bishop about claims of psychological abuse. Neither complaint is officially recorded. in the published figures.
"I feel aggrieved about it," says Magee. "Our church, our faith, have been disgraced by the very people who are supposed to uphold it: the bishops. They are defending the indefensible."Peter Kearney says the audits are "not a static recording exercise, rather an active work in progress. They are designed to be amended and revised in the light of historical reports and complaints whenever they are made."

Bride escapes death after wedding
A bride narrowly escaped death in an auto crash while on her way from her wedding. The accident involving a NNPC  tanker with number plate XG 321 MKA, a cargo truck and two saloon cars happened at about 4: 45pm on Saturday, close to the Otedola bridge, Alausa, on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.

Our reporter who witnessed the accident said the NNPC truck, while descending the slop from Alausa at top speed, could not hold its break. It then ran into the first car and squashed the second one against the cargo truck.

The bride and her husband were said to have jumped out of their car.
When our reporter got to the scene of the accident, the groom was no where in sight. The groom’s elder sister who spoke to our repoter while cuddling her baby explained that they were just coming from the wedding reception of the couple. She was seen kneeling down and thanking God for their escape but refused to give the name of the couple.

The fire coming out of the truck was put out by sympathisers as the tanker was carrying petroleum product. The accident also resulted in  gridlock which was controlled by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Bishop runs away with church member's wife

Bishop runs away with church member's wife

Precisely two weeks after Saturday Sun published the story of how a fake miracle scandal scattered a pentecostal church in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, a close friend of Bishop Israel Usoro, the Founder and Presiding Bishop of the troubled church, Bishop David Amoussou who was fingered as the mastermind of the arranged instant healing scam has again been embroiled in a wife snatching tango.

The City of Truth Chapel International, aka, Holy Ghost Embassy, in Uyo, under the leadership of Bishop Usoro as the General Overseer ran into a bad weather when some pastors of the church resigned and opted to blow the lid off the wind of instant miracles blowing in each of the church service, which they described as fake. They alleged that beneficiaries of such miracles were hired and paid to stage them as a new form of evangelism. They had equally claimed that the “new form of evangelism” was introduced to the church by Bishop Amoussou when he came as a guest minister early in the year. Bishop Usoro has however denied the allegations describing the whistleblowers as a bunch of Lucifer.

While the controversy surrounding the scandal is yet to abate, a man who claimed that Usoro’s spiritual partnership with Bishop Davis Amoussou had destroyed his family, stormed The Sun’s office and in tears narrated how Amoussou had snatched his wife.

His words: “My name is Ndifreke Benson, I am reacting to your story in Saturday Sun. When I read through the story, it was talking about a certain prophet, a certain Bishop. I can remember it was this same so called man of God that came with one man that comes from Ghana, called Bishop David Amoussou. Bishop David Amoossou has already taken my wife.

“He called me in May and said when he comes back in September, he would take my wife and I would do nothing. And in September when he came, I got a call from the police. In fact, for the three days that he was in Uyo, my wife never slept at home. I only met my wife in the police station, Ikot Akpan Abia, where she sat down with David Amoussou and the other Pastor of  Paul Bassey Street, Israel Usoro . They accused me of coming to the hotel where they lodged with my wife to kidnap them. Even the O.C state anti-kidnapping who knows me very well was shocked over such accusation. It was the elder brother of my wife that came to dismiss the case. He was even telling the police what David Amoussou has done to his sister. My wife has three children.

“I brought her up 16 years ago before she got the job at NEPA. And just because they have paid her severance allowance, David Amoussou, got the information through the other Bishop, who brought David Amoussou to come and cast a spell on my wife and took my wife.

“Right now, my wife is half mad. She does not even know the brother or the sister or listen to anybody or want to see me right now. My wife has gone and they have rented a house somewhere and she is living with David Amoussou. She is even planning to marry him. She had called my friend to tell him that she would be sending a wedding card to him. So, this is what these people are doing in Uyo. I am a victim and the story has to be investigated properly.”

Asked whether he had ever made attempt to harass Amoussou over his alleged  relationship with his wife, the distraught Benson said “I never knew  him at all. All I knew was that my wife did not sleep at home for three nights. And the day my wife was at the police, I was in a business centre typing a document, and they claimed it was at that time that I went to the hotel to kidnap them. I was shocked. That is to show you that David Amoussou wants to kill me in order to take my wife.”

He said the police had to quickly dismiss the kidnap case because Amoussou himself said that somebody told him that he (Benson) is a very dangerous person that was why he went to the police.

“My wife is under his custody. For over two months now, I have not set my eyes on my wife. I have made all efforts to trace where she is but she does not want to see anyone that knows her. The only call I got was that of my friend who told me she was ready to print a wedding card with David Amoussou. Some other people are even telling me now that she has changed her name from Esther Ndifreke Benson to Esther David Amoussou”, Benson lamented.

He said he had approached the Christian association of Nigeria, CAN, and other notable Christian leaders like popular Rev Uma Ukpai to help him retrieve his wife from the stronghold of Bishop Amoussou.

“I am handing everything to God. I have already discussed with CAN to try and plead with David Amoussou to remove the spell he has cast on my wife so that my wife can return home to take care of the three children. I have talked to many high Bishops. I have talked to Uma Ukpai as well as many others to help me talk to David Amoussou to leave my wife alone.” Benson also said he was considering taking a legal action if all other methods fail.

But reacting to the allegation, the woman at the centre of the storm, Mrs Esther Ndifreke Benson, said she is  no longer married to Benson because he has been accusing her of infidelity even when he does not have money to take care of the family as a man. She vowed to go ahead and marry Bishop Amoussou if Benson does not stop looking for her.

According to her: “The man, Ndifreke Benson, who came to you was my husband, he is no more my husband. What really happened is that, we got married in the year 2000; everything was going well and before he met me, I am a Christian. We went to church together; I embraced him because we were from the same place. But it is not everything, because the Bible says that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers, against spiritual wickedness in high places. It is not everything that I saw through my marital life that I complained to anybody because it is for better, for worse.

“I have passed through all kinds of things which I cannot just start saying now but the one that pained me most was on the 7th of October this year. He doesn’t go to church. He has been accusing me of being impregnated by one pastor Enono of Life Builders Assembly, Uyo.

“ I don’t really know what happened because I was a nursing mother then. They went to the police station then and I was called to testify. You understand what I am trying to say. Is it a crime for me to worship God? Is it a crime for me to go close to men of God? Or is it a crime to worship God. I thought that he should be happy that I am worshipping God. But at the end, what he will say is that I am sleeping with these men of God.

“ I endured it and never told my people what I was passing through. The only person who knew what happened was my younger sister. It is not just something that you will start telling people; that you are being accused of adultery. I kept quiet. My mother was married till death did them part and I had to stay in my marital home, which I did. A lot of things happened, but I endured.”

She said it is the threat to her life that made her abandon the marriage. “The only one that pained me most was on October 7, he started beating me. If not by God’s grace, I would have been a dead person by now. He started beating me that I was going out with one Amoussou. That in fact, the man charmed me, that the man has been using magical oil.

“Okay, I am going out with this man of God as you said, why not release me to go, but you just wanted to kill me. He strangled me and would have killed me if not for the knock on the door by my neighbour? My neighbour knocked and he thought that it was the landlord, he left me. At this stage, this is no more spiritual, I am above it because I know that he that is in me is greater than he that is in the world. But by strangling me, I was afraid.

“So what happened was that I used wisdom; I did as if I had settled with him. He took me to work, I left. I had to run for me dear life. I went to the office and took permission to go on leave, because I have seen as they say death is not far. So I decided to leave, I left everything I had toiled and labored for. What he is thinking that is maybe I am going out with the pastor, but if he should tempt me, even though I don’t want to marry again, if he tempts me, I will go on and marry that man and he can’t do anything .

“Is it by force? Marriage is not by force, he should go his way. I went to court for a divorce, they gave him divorce letter. So why is he after people? I don’t fight him, but if he feels that by going public that I Esther (laughs) will come back to his house, then he is wasting his damn time. He should leave me alone; I want to be.

Adulterous woman, and yet you are after me, what do you want? Is it by force?

When asked about her purported plan to get married soon to Bishop Amoussou, Esther dismissed the allegation that she can decide to go ahead with the marriage if her estranged husband does not leave her alone.

“Getting married where? I am on my own; the man (Amoussou) is on his own. Which one be my own? That I joined his ministry does not mean that I am going out with him. But if he tries me, I will marry him o! He should stop that rubbish. You don’t know that he is fighting a man of God? He should stop it. How do you say that I am a harlot and you still want me to come and marry you? No!” she stated.

Asked about the whereabouts of the three kids, Esther said they were with her. “Yes, they are with me. The children were with me formerly, but he went and took them to my brother. My brother was not taking care of them so I decided to take my kids and take care of them. So I’m I complaining? What is his problem? Is it by force? Marriage is not a do or die affair o!”

When contacted on all his three GSM lines, the man at the centre of the storm, Bishop Amousou refused to pick his calls. However, a few minutes after Esther finished speaking with our correspondent, Benson called to inform about a text message sent by Amoussou to his phone.

The text as forwarded through Benson’s line reads: “U see Mr Man, u r (you are) just a big fool. Let me let u (you) know I am happily married with beautiful children. So go and south (sought) out  ur (your) madness somewhere else not from me. BE WORN!” (sic).
